Estate Planning
There is often a misconception that estate planning is only for the wealthy and those subject to estate taxes. While it is true that wealthy individuals and families require complex estate planning, all individuals over the age of 18 require basic estate planning documents.
Our firm provides basic estate planning documents - will, health care directives and proxy, and power of attorney. In addition, we help those individuals who wish to plan business succession and inheritance issues that involve more complex trust instruments.
Our firm is devoted to helping same-sex partners achieve security and equal status with opposite-sex partners by proper estate planning. Massachusetts is the only state in the nation where same-sex marriage is legal. However, a same-sex marriage in Massachusetts need not be recognized by any other state in the nation due to federal law. As such, gay and lesbian individuals and partners have special estate planning needs which must take into account this separate status. Our firm will utilize the basic estate planning documents - will, health care directive and proxy, and power of attorney - along with appropriate trust documents, tailored to gay and lesbian individuals or couples to meet the challenges of this separate status.
